Product Information
Alan Barnes is one of the UK's leading jazz musicians who has recorded numerous albums as sideman or leader. He has finally decided to take control of his own destiny by forming his own record label, Woodville Records and for his debut release Barnes has rescued from the vaults 12 unreleased tracks from a 1993 session. For these recordings Alan chose to work with some of his favourite musicians, including his regular rhythm section of the time, David Newton on piano, Paul Morgan on bass and Mark Taylor on drums. Added to these are Andy Panayi and Iain Dixon on tenor sax and Martin Shaw on trumpet who are featured on the quintet and sextet tracks.
This enjoyable straightahead set showcases Alan Barnes on alto, baritone and clarinet performing a selection of originals and jazz standards by Coltrane, Strayhorn, Ellington, Jobim and Gershwin.
Personnel: Alan Barnes (alto sax, baritone sax, clarinet), Andy Panayi, Iain Dixon (tenor saxophone), Martin Shaw (trumpet), David Newton (piano), Paul Morgan (bass), Mark Taylor (drums)
