• Tony Hatch is quite simply one of Britain’s greatest songwriters and one of our most popular composers. If you don’t know this man’s name you will undoubtedly be familiar with his work.
• Hatch (writing alone, or in tandem with his partner Jackie Trent), was responsible for some of the most brilliantly crafted hits of the 1960s. Their melodies defined the era. There’s no higher praise.
• Downtown, Call Me, Joanna, Where Are You Now (My Love), Forget Him, Don’t Sleep In The Subway, I couldn’t Live Without Your Love to name but a few. Hits for Petula Clark, Scott Walker, Chris Montez, The Searchers and many others.
• And as if the great songwriting were not enough Hatch also wrote memorable and long enduring themes for such successful television shows as Crossroads, Sportsnight, Man Alive, Neighbours and Emmerdale Farm He is quite simply one of the most broadcast composers Britain has ever known.
• This is an anthology of early Hatch recordings. Many impossibly rare. We feature two of the five versions of Look For A Star that hit the American single chart simultaneously during the summer of 1960 (including the Garry Mills version that featured in the film Circus of Horrors and reached No.7 in the UK chart) an array of early 60s compositions, productions and arrangements and the A and B sides of all of the solo singles Hatch recorded for Top Rank and Pye between 1959-1962.
