Kristen Wiig stars in this comedy as a struggling playwright forced to move back in with her unconventional family. When her dreams of being a successful playwright begin to falter and her high society boyfriend dumps her, Imogene (Wiig) decides to win him back by faking her own suicide. But her plan backfires when she ends up being placed in the hands of her live-life-as-it-comes, gambling addicted mother Zelda (Annette Bening) at her Jersey Shore home.

While craving the trappings of her former Manhattan lifestyle, Imogene soon realises that if she's ever going to find her way in the world again she's finally going to have to come to terms with her family, including her brother Ralph (Christopher Fitzgerald), Zelda's reality-challenged boyfriend George (Matt Dillon), and new addition, hunky lodger Lee (Darren Criss).
