Product Information
Tokyo, January 25, 2018 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that it will release the AP-470 in its CELVIANO lineup of cabinet-style digital pianos. Available in three different finishes, the AP-470 features both sounds and a design styled after actual acoustic pianos.
The new AP-470 models come with two types of preset grand piano tones. The type intended for classical music reproduces the lingering reverberations of an acoustic piano and give players a full range of expressiveness, from delicate notes to powerful tones, depending on the force of their keystrokes. The other type of grand piano tone is intended for jazz and pop music, which tend to use more straightforward tones. With the two types, players can perform in a wide variety of genres. For the new models, Casio improved two technologies: its String Resonance technology, which adjusts the resonance for every single key, and its Hammer Response technology, which optimizes the attack of the notes to match the characteristics of different types of piano tones. With these features, the AP-470 is even more responsive than previous models, ensuring users can play comfortably and naturally.
Moreover, these new models are styled after actual acoustic pianos, including an openable top board design that allows users to adjust the acoustics of the piano and broaden its sound, along with a single-piece keyboard cover, sturdy side panels, and rounded edges on the sides of each key.
In addition, the new AP-470 models come with a function for connecting to Casio’s dedicated Chordana Play for Piano app.* The app displays various settings on the screen, including options for switching tones and adjusting resonance, making it easy for users to create their own settings. Settings are also savable in the app.
More pleasant grand piano sounds for pianists
The AP-470 is equipped with Casio’s Multi-dimensional Morphing AiR Sound Source, which reproduces the natural temporal changes in tone as well as the changes in volume and timbre according to the force of the keystroke—from the moment a note sounds, through its beautiful sustain, until it finally vanishes away. Furthermore, the length of reverberation can be controlled by the speed with which the finger leaves a key. In addition, changes in sound quality are controlled based on time passage—even more precisely than previous models—resulting in even better sounding piano sustain.
Tri-sensor Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard II
- The Tri-sensor Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard II detects the force of keystrokes using three sensors per key to reproduce the distinct attack timing of acoustic pianos.
- The instrument’s black and white keys look and feel like real ebony and ivory for a luxurious feel and texture as well as a smooth touch.
- The Hammer Response reproduces the variations in the attack of the notes according to the characteristics of different types of piano tones and the register of the keyboard being played.
Damper Resonance
The player can let beautiful resonating tones linger by using Damper Resonance, a technology that digitally simulates the resonant effect of a damper pedal. The AP-470 also comes with a damper pedal for finely controlling pedal operations in real time.
Advanced String Resonance
String Resonance reproduces the distinct string resonances of each of the keyboard’s 88 keys. It also reproduces the different resonances when a single note is played or when a chord is played. It even expresses the variations in resonance for different chords. For the new AP-470 models, Casio has also recreated more natural sounding reverberations of the piano by increasing the purity of the resonance.
Openable top board design
The physical top board on these digital pianos can be opened and closed, allowing users to adjust the acoustics of the piano and enjoy a more expansive sound while playing.
Sound-quality calibration features for comfortable playing
The AP-470 features Volume Sync Equalizer, which automatically adjusts sound to a pleasant tone quality in line with volume settings, and Headphone Mode, which optimizes sound expansiveness when the headphones are plugged in, allowing the player to practice at ease even at night.
Connectivity with Casio’s dedicated Chordana Play for Piano app
The AP-470 can connect to Casio’s dedicated Chordana Play for Piano app, which allows the user to operate various piano settings from the app screen. Moreover, the app includes scores (in PDF format) for the 60 preset songs that come with the AP-470* and explanations of the music, composer, and tones of the 60 preset songs. It even includes an evaluator function for correcting the timing of pressed keys and displaying a grade for completed performances.
